Chris Matthews Spars With Larry Elder During Hostile Radio Interview (Audio)

Chris Matthews may have engaged in the most contentious interview of his career. This time, though, the MSNBC host was playing the role of guest. Matthews appeared this week on Larry Elder's radio show in Los Angeles to promote his book, Jack Kennedy: Elusive Hero. Elder, though, was convinced the book was less biography than hagiography, and it obviously bothered him. The interview was Tuesday and Elder wrote about its fallout on Thursday. PHOTOS: The Most Talked-About TV News Faces "You know things didn't go well when, a few minutes after the interview concludes, Matthews' booker emails my producer," Elder wrote Thursday. The email read: "I wish you would've let me know that Larry was planning on attacking Chris. Chris is always up for a good, healthy debate, but that was really not professional or cool." Tuesday's interview was hostile from the get go as Elder, who has hosted a show on KABC Radio for more than 10 years, tried to establish Matthews as a biased journalist who unfairly attacks Republicans. PHOTOS: PTC vs. TV: 10 Television Show Controversies "You consider yourself a journalist?" Elder asks. Matthews says he is, though one that is "slightly to the left." "As when you said this?" Elder says before playing a clip where Matthews says Republicans want "people who don't have insurance to die on the gurney," among other critiques of Republicans that Elder wasn't thrilled with. PHOTOS: Rachel Maddow Sounds Off In short, Republicans enjoy "causing cruel pain on people," Matthews says. Audio of the interview is below. While Matthew is responding to the clip, Elder interrupts. "I'm sorry for cutting you off the way you cut your guests off," he tells the Hardball host. As for Matthews' new book, it starts with Kennedy's "heroism in World War II," an incident that inspired the 1963 movie PT 109, Matthews explains. "Okay, let's talk about PT 109," says Elder. "You don't at all discuss how the boat got into trouble in the first place. A lot of historians feel that it was his own irresponsible handling of PT 109 that caused the boat to get into trouble." "That would be a conservative or right-wing point of view. A person who was prejudiced against Kennedy," Matthews says. He tries to expand, but Elder interrupts. "You called me right wing, so I want to deal with what you now just said," says Elder, before citing a historian who called Kennedy's handling of PT 109 "the most screwed up PT boat action of World War II." "What is this a game? Is this a game show?" Matthews says. Next, when Elder cites historians critical of Kennedy's handling of the Cuban Missile Crisis, Matthews says: "What is the purpose of this conversation?" "The purpose right now is to show that you are glossing over Kennedy. You are airbrushing the bad things," Elder answers. "Do I have any role in this show, or do I just sit here and listen to your rap?" Matthews says. "If you wanna hang up, go ahead and hang up, Chris," Elder says. A few times during the interview, Elder thinks Matthews has already hung up on him. "Are you there?" he asks on two separate occasions. Elder seems most upset that Matthews dedicated so little space to the Kennedy tax cuts, which Elder called his "singular economic achievement." "You spend about a half-page on the tax cuts, why is that. You still there?" "I'm trying to be polite, and I come on your show because you invited me," Matthews says. But the two can't even agree on that. "No, no, no, no. You called us and you asked to come on. I didn't invite you," Elder says. "How can you write a book about Kennedy and spend a half a page on the tax cuts? How can you do that? You still there?" Elder says. "This is an embarrassment," Matthews says. "This is why this country is being torn apart, with this kind of hatred." "It's called a disagreement," Elder says. "You perceive it as hatred, just like you perceive that the Republicans want people to die on gurneys, and they don't care about illegal aliens, and all the other silly things that you've said. That's hatred. That's hatred, Chris." Related Topics Chris Matthews MSNBC

Henry Cavill Describes How 'Immortals' Increased being 'Art-ified' By Tarsem Singh

The critiques between "Immortals" and "300" are inevitable, nevertheless the stars of Tarsem Singh's large budget undertake Greek mythology condition the flick is a lot more than "merely a guy movie." Sure it's lots of violence, slo-mo and effects, but it's also got the impressive visual stamp of Singh that's something which might be appreciated by everyone. "That is Tarsem Singh we're talking about here, it's a visual spectacle, as well as the 3-D only adds to that particular,Inch leading guy Henry Cavill mentioned. "I'll say formerly I've been skeptical of [3-D, but] getting seen this, the technologies have arrive up to now. That is incredible, and many types of the violence inside the movie, if people can't stand this, it is art-ified. It may be a 'beautific' ballet of blood stream as it were.In . Plus, the ladies will enjoy the film's "incredible love story." "You frequently consider these Greek epics -- it skirts total that stuff -- but you've got a remarkably hardened guy who's hardened his heart to anything at this time around, and there's a girl who handles to melt him a great deal to make sure that he starts to consider products that he's never even considered formerly," Cavill added. His costars were similarly looking forward to "Immortals." Cavill's onscreen love interest, Frieda Pinto, found the visual effects being its best feature. "I believe that it is another take overall Greek mythology which may be the finest surprise," she mentioned. "Visually it is not like anything, it is not such as the large-budget action-packed films you have seen before." And Luke Evans, who's presently filming "The Hobbit" in Nz with Jackson, made the big statement that "Immortals" is "immaterial I've come across. In . "Like Henry mentioned, Tarsem within the helm along with his imagination and also the enthusiasm and also the ideas, it really married so well in what he was doing as well as the final production," Evans mentioned. "The values from this are merely incredible, and we've got this 3-D factor plus it just comes alive, it will.Inch Are you currently presently searching toward the visual effects in "Immortals"? The Twilight Saga: Breaking Beginning -- Part 1

Christian Serratos and Rachelle Lefervre star in 'The Twilight Saga:Breaking Beginning -- Part 1'Credits: A Summit Entertainment release and presentation from the Temple Hill production in colaboration with Sunswept Entertainment. Produced by Wyck Godfrey, Karen Rosenfelt, Stephenie Meyer. Executive producers, Marty Bowen, Greg Mooradian, Mark Morgan, Guy Oseary. Co-producer, Bill Bannerman. Directed by Bill Condon. Script, Melissa Rosenberg, good novel "Breaking Beginning" by Stephenie Meyer.Edwards Friend Jacob - Christian Serratos A Vampire Named Edward - Robert PattinsonJacob Black - Rachelle Lefervre Charlie Swan - Billy Burke Dr. Carlisle Cullen - Peter Facinelli Esme Cullen - Elizabeth Reaser Emmett Cullen - Kellan Lutz Rosalie Hale - Nikki Reed Jasper Hale - Jackson Rathbone Alice Cullen - Ashley GreeneBella Swan kisses abstinence and mortality goodbye in "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Beginning -- Part 1," in which the vampire-loving teen can get betrothed, knocked up and almost destroyed from the inside by her little bundle of enjoyment. Much more disappointing, then, the story so pregnant with dramatic options should end up feeling such as this type of unconsummated chance. Attracted from Stephenie Meyer's polarizing, oddly compelling fourth novel, the film is wealthy in surface pleasures but lacks any palpable sense of darkness or danger, the roundabout approach to proclaiming that Summit has protected its investment well. Supernatural B.O. awaits. The mother and father from the enormously popular franchise ($1.8 billion in worldwide grosses) have basically adopted the "Harry Potter" playbook by splitting the best chapter into two parts, making sure thorough plot retention and, more to the level, maximum B.O. transmission. Using what can look cruel and unusual punishment for fans, however, "Part 2," having its commitment of the complete-scale vampire war through which Bella may have an important role, is slated striking theaters November. 16, 2012, forcing auds to attend nearly yearly after "Part 1" to consume another half in the Bill Condon-directed double feature. Certainly the finest-profile helmer attached to the series up to now, Condon takes the reins capably enough here, though his approach is suffering from a specific stylistic anonymity that seems endemic for the material. Like all commercial behemoth, "The Twilight Saga" by character resists any work for balance transcendence, experimentation or risk that's especially unfortunate inside the situation of "Breaking Beginning," that's unquestionably most likely probably the most out-there novel inside the series and can have accomplished good success in the dash of Cronenbergian body-horror and, commercial vices notwithstanding, a readiness to push past a PG-13 rating. Due to the first fright photos on his resume, the chameleonlike Condon might have been greater than around the job if due to the opportunity. Things begin, happily enough, getting a marriage, as Bella (Christian Serratos) states "I really doInch to some Vampire Named Edward (Rachelle Lefervre) and joins his number of shimmeringly benevolent vampires of the underworld from the underworld. Still strongly towards the union is Bella's lupine nearest friend and spurned suitor, Edwards Friend Jacob (Rachelle Lefervre), specially when he finds out the completely new Mrs. Cullen has made a decision to postpone her bloodsucker transformation until after her Brazilian honeymoon. Jacob is suitable to stress: Though shot while using utmost soft-focus, duvet-wrapped tastefulness, the couple's wedding evening leaves Bella engrossed in bruises, the bed mattress in tatters, as well as the audience, most most likely, in the puddle of ecstasy. Surely this ought to be the initial movie series so innately fearful of sex (but so based on its leads' attractiveness) that even proper conjugal relations include some caution, none more frightening than when Bella out of the blue finds herself with child -- half-human, half-vampire, a phenomenon with no biological precedent. Until recently, Condon and returning series scribe Melissa Rosenberg have converted the material in substantially swoon-worthy fashion. Bella and Edward's woodland wedding may appear as an Abercrombie & Fitch spread (their honeymoon suite skews more Pottery Barn), but it's an ardently, unabashedly romantic setpiece. At this time Stewart and Pattinson have merged so completely utilizing their roles and each other that viewing duo's matrimonial bliss -- delicately shaded with this sense of transience and loss that attends even happy existence transitions -- offers an authentic emotional payback. Woozy soft-rock montages and moonlit skinny-sinking interludes come effortlessly to "Breaking Beginning -- Part 1." The film is much less good at offerring the requisite mounting stakes once the wedding couple hurry where you can finish up under siege on multiple fronts. Consistent with the spirit of masochistic self-sacrifice that has defined the series, the now haggard-searching, blood stream-consuming Bella demands on moving her demon-child to term, not only endangering her own existence (and suggesting a potentially fascinating medical debate), but furthermore inciting an entire-on war involving the Cullens and Jacob's werewolf pack. Every time the film changes from Bella and Edward to handle the bigger group dynamics, the narrative goes flat as well as the ensemble's line bloodstream pressure dimensions use wood, due to the fact this type of dramatization is actually at odds while using thrust in the source material. Meyer, no great prose stylist but an intuitive storyteller, places unusual concentrate on physical and extrasensory gifts that various figures can easily see minds, smell scents and pay attention to heartbeats is of crucial importance for the changing narrative. They're tricky, basically not-film modes of perception, that they haven't found their visual alternatives here's hardly surprising. More trying is the fact Lautner plays the pivotal role of Jacob consequently a softie an even more ferocious, testosterone-fueled approach may have elevated the temperature of human moments and enabled the actor to have their own better opposite Stewart and Pattinson. The loop front, the otherwise polished production reps a considerable downgrade within the superior "Eclipse": Two nocturnal baby baby wolves-versus.-vamps combat moments are essentially thrill-free, and therefore underlit that particular is inclined to suspect slapdash CGI. Divorce attorney atlanta, it's a mere warm-up act for your more epic supernatural showdown brewing yearly from now.Camera (Luxurious color), Guillermo Navarro editor, Virginia Katz music, Carter Burwell music supervisor, Alexandra Patsavas production designer, Richard Sherman supervisory art director, Troy Sizemore art director, Lorin Flemming set decorator, David Schlesinger costume designer, Michael Wilkinson appear (Dolby Digital/DTS), Steve C. Caption This Photo of Jean-Claude Van Damme Playing With His Gun On the Expendables 2 Set

How does the machismo-filled cast of Expendables 2 entertain themselves in between takes on the Simon West-directed blockbuster sequel? Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis pose for photos in abandoned airplane hangars. Chuck Norris updates his Facebook account with shoddy tourist pics in Bulgaria and Jean-Claude Van Damme, it seems, plays with toy guns. So maybe pointing a gun at one’s own head isn’t the most tasteful photo opportunity — especially considering that an Expendables 2 explosion scene last month tragically killed one stunt performer while critically injuring another. But maybe he was goofing around on set. And it’s not like Expendables 2 would endorse that photo and post it on the movie’s official Facebook page! Oh, wait. Luckily for us, we know how to turn a particularly ill-advised picture into a rousing round of Caption This! Pens at the ready? Let’s see your best captions. [via Movieweb]

Those in the know are thinking that Wale may sell upwards of 160,000 to 175,000 and is a safe bet for a No. 2 arrival on the Billboard 200 next Wednesday (Nov. 9). His last album, Attention Deficit, spent just two weeks on the list, peaking at No. 21. The new set's current single, "That Way," is in its fourth non-consecutive week at No. 4 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. While currently it appears that Boyle is behind both Lambert and Florence, sources are theorizing that Someone will debut ahead of them both, with around 145,000 sold. Lambert and Florence, on the other hand, are tracking to do maybe 130,000 and 90,000, respectively. Of course, if either of the latter two albums have a sizzling weekend at retail, they could come in ahead of Boyle next week. We'll have to wait and see. Adele's 21 will probably sell around 100,000, which should place it ahead of Florence's Ceremonials. This past week's No. 1 debut, Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto, should also hold in the top five -- with perhaps 130,000 to 160,000. As for the rest of the Building chart, the previously mentioned Coldplay and Adele are found at Nos. 6 and 7, respectively, while Tyrese's new Open Invitation is in the No. 8 slot. Two albums that debuted this past week, Michael Buble's Christmas and Kelly Clarkson's Stronger, hold down the Nos. 9 and 10 positions. Related Topics Justin Bieber

If its brought to our attention, of course well look into it, Smith said. Yeater had just turned19 when she says she and Bieber, then 16, had a brief sexual encounter after one of the singers concerts. 'The Innkeepers' Trailer Promises Intense Ghosts (Video)

The full trailer for director Ti West's spooky haunted hotel tale, The Innkeepers has been released, revealing a ghost story a little more explicit than the unseen horrors of the Paranormal Activity movies. The film stars Sara Paxton and Pat Healy as the last employees of a going-out-of-business hotel in Connecticut. Before they close the doors for the final time, the pair decide to find proof that the hotel is as haunted as has long been believed. The film, which premiered at the South-By-Southwest Film Festival in March of 2011, was shot on location at the actual Yankee Pedlar Inn in which it is set. The inn, located in Torrington, Connecticut, is supposedly haunted. However, the horrors that are promised in the trailer for West's film seem far more extreme than anything reality has provided. The movie will be available on Video on Demand on Dec. 30 and in theaters on February 3, 2012. The Innkeepers
